Oktoberkind

What it feels like to wake up in a hospital and face the next electroshock treatment - this is rarely the stuff of literature. Oktoberkind traces the path of a woman and writer who struggles to find her memories at this point. The therapy threatens to erase these memories, the driving force behind her writing. So she summons up all her courage to visualise everything: her childhood in the city, her marriage to a famous writer, life in the country where he flourishes and she withers away, the birth of her four children, her own employees as a writer and the strength she finds in them. Among the images from her childhood, the one of riding at holiday camp is a ray of hope. She is happy at a wild gallop, but soon she has to return to the city and everyday life.
In her autobiographical and at the same time highly poetic novel, Linda Boström Knausgård penetrates to the causes of her pain and failure, but also to moments of strength and happiness, which she captures in powerful, unforgettable prose.
