Obwalden dialect dictionary

Language, although no longer treated with care in our fast-paced times, is one of our most important cultural assets, wrote former Kernser pastor, folklorist, and author Karl Imfeld in the preface to his Obwaldner dialect dictionary. The Obwaldner dialect is alive and constantly evolving. It encompasses all areas of life, reflects our thinking and feelings, and is a cultural treasure of immeasurable value. The first Obwaldner dialect dictionary was already a monumental work. Now, Karl Imfeld has revised and updated the entire vocabulary of the Obwaldner dictionary over four years of work. For example, around 200 words that have recently become established—such as those from youth language—have been newly included.
