A group of children spend their summers on a Greek island where their parents work as archaeologists. They experience the weeks in the shimmering heat as a magical parallel world to their everyday lives at home in France or Italy, dominated by school and parental strife. Forgotten by the adults, the children roam the excavation site, dive in the sea, fear each other while playing hide-and-seek at night, scare away the first tourists who venture to the excavation site, fall in love and compete with each other, and over time become a conspiratorial community. Until, years later, they must realize, full of melancholy, that not only every summer ends, but also every childhood.
