A selection of poems by Jürgen Theobaldy from more than fifty years Jürgen Theobaldy is a precise observer. His poems combine the political experiences of his generation with the non-academic gesture of personal experiences in a socially turbulent, increasingly pop-cultural environment characterised by consumerism. Sensual and concrete, close to colloquial language, they bring to mind a youth in proletarian Mannheim, Sundays on football pitches and in cinemas, love in times of demonstrations against war and nuclear armament, strikes and job bans. With his own poetic self-reflection, Theobaldy is today regarded as an important representative of the so-called New Subjectivity. In the decades that followed, he expanded his approach to include an examination of classical poetry from Sappho and Goethe to Heym and Trakl. Nevertheless, even in his metrically bound poems, he retains a seemingly light, unpretentious tone, with which he has also opened himself up to Far Asian poetry and lifestyles between rock gardens and shopping streets and at the same time asserts his poetry as a place of communicable, and therefore also shareable, experiences. Poems that reach far into the world and society - a lyrical event of everyday urgency! I would like to write a short poem one with four five lines no longer a very simple one that says everything about both of us and yet reveals nothing about you and me.
