It fascinates, it outrages, it excites, and it inspires: the nude. It is one of the oldest and most captivating subjects in art. The unclothed body offers virtually limitless possibilities to represent humanity's view of itself, its ideals, fears, and dreams. The nude is a genre that continually reinvents itself to convey social, political, and aesthetic concerns. Whether private, historical, intimate, or political: a multitude of artists has addressed the naked body in their works. The exhibition highlights different interpretations of the nude and its art historical development from the 19th to the 21st century. It addresses themes such as the male gaze on the naked female body and the questions of gender and identity.
