As Flâneuse, Lauren Elkin celebrated the walker in the city, showing how strolling aimlessly through New York, Tokyo, Venice - but especially Paris - invigorates the soul and focuses the mind. In her new book, No. 91/92, she becomes part of the commuting crowd on the bus with a love letter to Paris written in iPhone notes. Her goal: to observe the world through her phone screen instead of using her phone to distract herself from the world. From thoughts on Virginia Woolf and Georges Perec to her first impressions after the 2015 terrorist attacks, her diary questions the boundaries between togetherness and separateness, and between the mundane and the eventful, while capturing the energy and spirit of a special city and its people.
