Not Vital is undoubtedly one of the most internationally recognized Swiss artists. His work is represented in numerous collections worldwide. Born in 1948 in Sent in the Lower Engadin, he studied in Paris and Rome before moving to New York in 1976. Today, Not Vital lives and works in Beijing and Rio de Janeiro, returning regularly to his homeland. His engagement with various cultures strongly influences Vital's creations. He often collaborates with local artisans, uses materials found on-site, and seeks surreal connections between different cultural fragments. Furthermore, he consciously locates his projects in various regions of the world. He primarily works as a sculptor, but his oeuvre also includes drawings, paintings, prints, performances, and architectural projects. For the first time ever in Switzerland, the Bündner Kunstmuseum is showcasing his work.
