Abstract: In the following paper, I will focus on the intercultural action situation "German as a Foreign Language - Teaching" with reference to the issue of nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication conveys many hundreds of contextualization cues in the classroom every day. Both teachers and learners use body language as a tool, either consciously or unconsciously. In foreign language teaching, it may happen that language learners react differently to the facial expressions, gestures, and body posture of the native-speaking teacher than expected. Or vice versa.
