In many areas of international development policy, cooperation with the private sector is given great importance. In Germany, companies are also considered indispensable partners for achieving global development goals in state development cooperation. Civil society actors evaluate the cooperation with companies differently: on one hand, there is the opportunity to mobilize additional potentials, while on the other hand, there are concerns that companies might use their development engagement merely as a marketing tool for image enhancement. Furthermore, German companies are expected to act responsibly along the entire value chain, even abroad.
