The autobiographically tinted novel "No Longer Human" by Osamu Dazai is one of the most frequently interpreted texts in Japan. The work is often compared to Goethe's "The Sorrows of Young Werther" both in its narrative structure, where the author and fictional protagonist are equated, and in its claim to reality with parallel abstraction.
