Nineteen Eighty-Four is George Orwell&rsquo,s last novel. It was published in June 1949, six months before his death in January 1950. It is considered by many to be a masterpiece of literature.

Winston Smith lives in a dystopian surveillance state in 1984, and as a member of the 'outer party' he is busy fabricating history for the Ministry of Truth. Inside himself, however, Smith is an opponent of the system, which is why he comes into conflict with the Thought Police.
