Fab Lab

In the course of the digital revolution, Fab Labs (short for Fabrication Laboratory) make high-tech production technologies available to small workgroups or individuals, allowing them to create almost anything themselves. Fab Labs serve as both workshop and laboratory, equipped with digital production machines such as laser cutters, CNC milling machines, and 3D printers. Following desktop publishing and digital video editing, the production of physical products is now possible for anyone, anywhere. The first half of the publication explores topics such as the history of Fab Labs, the philosophy behind them, business aspects, as well as the techniques, methods, and workflows from various authors. Following this, the design and production process in a Dutch Fab Lab is presented as an example. The extensive Fab Gallery at the end showcases additional works.
