Between the North Sea coast and the Harz mountains, a multitude of castles, fortresses, and manors from various eras have been preserved to this day, such as Bückeburg Castle, the Imperial Palace in Goslar, the former Bentheim Castle, the neo-Gothic Marienburg Castle, Hämelschenburg Castle as a famous example of Weser Renaissance, and the hunting lodge Clemenswerth in Emsland. The large cities also harbor historical treasures, for example, Hannover with the Welf Castle and the Herrenhausen Gardens, Braunschweig with Dankwarderode Castle, and Osnabrück with the Prince-Bishop's Palace, the largest Baroque palace in Lower Saxony.
