Product details
Non-suicidal self-injuries frighten and alienate not only relatives but also many professionals. They arouse feelings of helplessness, guilt and anger, sadness and disgust. Accordingly, adolescents and young adults often face a wall of incomprehension and rejection, criticism and accusations. Yet self-harm is a characteristically human behaviour that is thousands of years old, in the confrontation with the meaning of life, with its threats and dangers, with unhappiness and grief, with hardship and personal failure.
The aim of the book is to be able to meet people who hurt themselves with an attitude of serenity and acceptance, appreciation and respect. Wilhelm Rotthaus conveys therapeutic concepts for conversations with those affected and their relatives and presents different approaches with concrete suggestions for practice. Last but not least, the book provides criteria that indicate a possible transition from self-harm to suicidal behaviour.
