New Handbook of Basic Philosophical Concepts

In the tradition of the "Handbook of Philosophical Concepts" published about 30 years ago by Hermann Krings, Hans-Michael Baumgartner, and Christoph Wild, the "New" Handbook is committed to providing philosophy itself in the field of philosophical dictionaries and encyclopedias, rather than merely presenting an established body of philosophical knowledge in an encyclopedic manner. In 208 articles written by 172 authors, philosophical terms from all areas of philosophy that can be identified as fundamental concepts are subjected to a philosophical-critical examination, based on the premise that concepts are not givens for thought, but primarily its products. This involves both the systematic approaches and perspectives chosen by the authors to elucidate the critical underlying concern.
