A highly poetic and socially critical novel that shows what could happen to all of us – if it hasn't already happened.
Tense times prevail: The EU is engaged in trade wars with the rest of the world, and there are no bananas left on supermarket shelves. Elections are approaching in Slovenia, and in Ljubljana, protests clash with counter-protests, while extremist parties are on the rise. Amidst this chaos, a young writer is going through her own crisis, with love and finances in disarray. To remedy the latter, she takes on a paid assignment to conduct Creative Writing workshops in a prison. As three inmates repeatedly provide her with new stories, all centered around war, she begins to write a historical novel about the friendship between Antonio Scopoli and Carl von Linné, Scopoli's journey through war-torn 18th-century Europe, and the place where the first banana was cultivated on European soil.
