Neuroonkologie

Neuro-oncology encompasses a wide range of conditions, including primary tumors and metastases in the nervous system, tumor predisposition syndromes, and tumor therapy-associated neurological symptoms. Diagnostic criteria and treatment strategies are continuously evolving. This work addresses this dynamic and is designed for both beginners and experienced clinicians. Foundational chapters provide a compact overview of relevant knowledge for clinical practice, and over 30 case studies cover individual neuro-oncological diseases. The challenges of an evidence-based and multiprofessional treatment strategy are systematically highlighted. In the era of personalized medicine, a fundamental change has also occurred in neuro-oncology, particularly through the definition of prognostic and predictive molecular markers as well as the biomarker-based design of clinical trials. For example, the current WHO classification of 2021 defines a variety of new molecular diagnostic criteria, which are explained for the first time in German in this work.
