The photography that Clemens Reiman and Herbert Weilguni present in their book 'New Worlds' is more than just capturing images. It is a form of communication that reveals other worlds we often overlook. Light, illuminating the darkness through reflections, creates the visible world around us. We see objects through the light they reflect, and our brain filters out secondary images to recognize important information. Reflections can be consciously perceived, as in mirrors that are used to reproduce or manipulate reality. They can create the illusion of infinite space or alter perception by transitioning from faithful to abstract representation. Reflections are also semiotic signs that can represent what is mirrored. They require the ability to recognize an image as a likeness and can highlight both redundancy in reality and the possibility of misinterpretation. The photographs in this volume allow us to transcend the limits of our perception and explore the world of reflections. They challenge us to understand the complexity of the world and how we perceive and decode it.
