Neue Materialismen zur Einführung

In the past two decades, a remarkable reorientation and shift in emphasis can be observed in cultural and social sciences: materialities are increasingly being addressed and reconceptualized. What unites the so-called New Materialisms is the conviction that the "linguistic turn" or primarily semiotic approaches are insufficient to capture the complex and dynamic interplay of meaning processes and material configurations. This introductory volume provides an overview of the central strands of debate within this research perspective for the first time. It introduces key figures such as Jane Bennett, Karen Barad, Rosi Braidotti, and Donna Haraway, highlighting both the innovative potential of this field of research and its analytical inconsistencies and conceptual gaps.
