Product details
According to Carl Schmitt, the modern state, the Leviathan, was "hunted down and eviscerated". "All the indirect powers that were otherwise so hostile to each other were suddenly in agreement and allied themselves to 'catch the great whale'", they "cut it up" and distributed "its flesh among themselves". But how did the great fish die in the course of a planetary space revolution, the consequences of which we are still wrestling with today? Carl Schmitt is regarded by many as a completely unsystematic and therefore highly contradictory thinker, as an occasionalist who jumps from polemic to polemic purely on the basis of occasion. The book, on the other hand, reconstructs a completely consistent and coherent movement of thought by Schmitt, beginning with his examination of positivised law (teilen), then with his analysis of democratised politics (nehmen) and finally his preoccupation with the internationalised economy (weiden). This coherent movement from the early legal theoretical and philosophical writings of the 1910s, through the articles on a theory of politics and the political in the 1920s, to the articles on a theory of the political in the 1920s. of the political in the 1920s, to the late work written in the late 1930s to 1950s, which is mainly devoted to questions of international economics and international law, is traced in three longer chapters. Law, politics and economics - sharing, taking, grazing - always point back to the basic fact of modernity: to secularisation, i.e. to contemporary society that has become 'incapable of God', of believing. In his new book, Philip Manow offers an overall interpretation of the relationship between law, politics and economics in Carl Schmitt, one of the most controversial figures in the history of political thought.
