Natural stone is experiencing a renaissance: used for façades, this traditional building material with a strong character also gives new buildings the impression of solidity and durability. The low energy input in the extraction of this material, which is often available locally, and its durability are increasingly arguments for the use of natural stone. The handbook deals with the design, planning and execution of façades whose weathering layer consists of natural stone - solidly constructed, clad with thin slabs or architecturally staged as a lamella in front. The path of the material is described, from its extraction to its processing and installation. Numerous projects by internationally active architects' offices show details of execution and exemplary façades.
