After nearly 3,000 kilometers, the Danube forms its delta: Europe's largest wetland, attracting both nature lovers and scientists alike - a unique landscape subject to constant change, a threatened paradise for animals and plants. The diversity is also reflected in the ethnic structure: numerous minorities live in the vicinity of the delta. And despite the international economic significance of the river, traditional land use practices have been preserved in the Danube Delta, still practiced today by the resident Lipovans, Chachols, Romanians, and Moldovans. Following the geographic framework, this book offers a scientific introduction to the Danube Delta, its location and shape, its flora and fauna, as well as the ethnic and economic structure of its population.
