This book conducts a comparison between a natural insulation material and a synthetic insulation material. It examines a wood fiber insulation board alongside an EPS insulation board, focusing on aspects such as fire behavior, thermal conductivity, recyclability, and life cycle costs. Initially, the application area of insulation materials made from renewable resources is defined, which differs from that of synthetic insulation materials due to regulatory requirements. As part of a potential analysis, a product is selected from various natural insulation materials available on the market - a wood fiber insulation board. The technical and economic parameters are evaluated by hypothetically applying the product in a real construction project. In the same project, the analysis is conducted with a synthetic insulation material - an EPS insulation board. The two variants are compared and assessed using a utility analysis, in which the previously considered analysis criteria are weighted. This allows for a statement regarding the performance differences between the two insulation boards.
