Queer lesen

Queer Reading is a method that makes the constructions of gender and desire readable. A queer reading opens up the perspective on how heterosexuality, as a postulated social norm, is continuously undermined in texts, and allows for the discovery of homoerotic or homosexual subtexts. However, the goal is not to establish other identities as the norm in return or to attribute labels such as homosexual or transgender to authors and characters. Rather, Queer Reading reveals a different desire that does not align with the expressions of the characters and our expectations. This expands our horizon and thus enriches any literary scholarly work. The study book illustrates through readings of various prose how a text can be read queerly and aims to encourage its readers to develop guidelines for queer reading texts themselves. In addition to the discussion of methods, the book also contributes to the exploration of canonical authors and works from a new perspective.
