Nachweis hormonaktiver Stoffe aus Getränkeflaschen

Plasticizers, known as phthalates, are used in the production of many plastic products but are suspected of disrupting the hormonal systems of humans and animals. Many plastics, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), are often in close contact with our food and can thus be easily absorbed. There is a possibility that the widely used SiOx coating in PET bottles can reduce the leaching of such endocrine disruptors from PET bottles into beverages. In this study, estrogen equivalence (EEQ) concentrations of various treated beverage packaging were determined using recombinant yeast cells. The study demonstrated that SiOx-coated PET bottles and Tetra Paks provide better protection against the leaching of hormonally active plasticizers compared to uncoated PET bottles, although they remain sensitive.
