Nachtwachen von Bonaventura - Freimüthigkeiten

"Nightwatch. Von Bonaventura" - under this title an anonymous book was published in 1804, which was rediscovered in the last third of the 19th century and has been published in ever new reprints since 1877. Schelling, E.T.A. Hoffmann and Brentano, among others, were assumed to be presumed authors. It was not until 1973 that Jost Schillemeit succeeded in clearly identifying the Braunschweig writer and theatre director August Klingemann as the author. Klingemann also created the small satirical comedy "Freimüthigkeiten", which also appeared anonymously and which is clearly reminiscent of the "Nachtwachen" in tone, style and material. Both texts follow the first editions in wording, spelling and punctuation and are accompanied by an epilogue and notes by Jost Schillemeit.
