Nacht in Damaskus

At the forefront of this lively novel, which takes readers to Damascus in 2011, is the story of a theft and its far-reaching consequences. Two characters play a special role in this framework narrative illuminated from various perspectives: Jawad, a young engineer, and Lamis, a strikingly beautiful and ambitious young woman, both employed by Aiman, a shady businessman who has suddenly passed away and was the original owner of a money bag that later disappeared without a trace.

Beyond their shared workplace, Jawad and Lamis are connected by a passionate love affair that is on the verge of failing when the young woman discovers that her lover has stolen the money. What she does not initially know is that the thief himself has become the victim of theft and has fallen into a life-threatening situation due to the loss of the loot.

The central characters are accompanied by several figures whose individual stories shed new light on life in the "Assad Kingdom of Fear," the strategies of a corrupt and ruthless system, and the early months of the revolution.
