The traditional tribal economy is one of the biggest obstacles to improving the living conditions of the tribal population. To change the existing dire situation of the tribal people, the efforts of the state and civil societies are crucial. This book highlights the efforts of the Pune-based non-governmental organization BAIF to sustainably secure the livelihoods of the tribal population in the densely populated states of India. The book describes how BAIF adopts a holistic approach to alternative land use options, as well as a more comprehensive approach to agricultural systems with the tribal communities.
