Author Information

Edith Hamilton (1868-1963) was born to American parents in Dresden, Germany, and grew up in Indiana. In the first quarter of the twentieth century, she served as the director of the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore. After her retirement, she began writing about the civilizations of the ancient world and soon gained worldwide recognition as a classicist. Her celebrated and bestselling books include Mythology, The Greek Way, The Roman Way, and The Echo of Greece. She considered a ceremony in 1957, where King Paul of Greece named her an honorary citizen of Athens, to be the highlight of her life. Jim Tierny studied illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
