My country and my people

My Country and My People, in the original German translation by Wilhelm Süskind from 1935, provides a broad overview of the thinking, behavior, and social philosophy of China. In the individual chapters of this two-part work, Lin Yutang analyzes with great observational acuity the mental and ethical state, the ideals of the Chinese people, their social, political, and literary life, as well as the roles of women, men, and the family.
