Polina Barskova is considered an heir to the great Russian poetry from Brodsky to Kharms, thanks to her formal virtuosity and profound humor. She emigrated to California twenty-five years ago, from where she observes the absurdity of the world. Her poetry is sometimes allusive, sometimes dramatically unfolding, filled with exuberant narrative and stylistic ideas. Because she advocates for dialogue with Ukrainian poets, her verses circulate only clandestinely in her homeland. For the first time, a selection from her complete works is presented in German, including her much-admired cycle about the Siege of Leningrad during World War II.
