What connections exist between music and the dynamics of late modern society? The volume presents positions from musicology, sociology, as well as cultural and media studies, which serve as a starting point for various theoretical perspectives and empirical-analytical approaches to the music culture of the present. The individual contributions discuss current music cultural phenomena and aesthetic practices – from streaming platforms and songwriting camps to ecological sound art, from hyperpop and YouTube clips to dance challenges on TikTok – in relation to economic and media transformation processes, political conflicts, and ecological crises in late modernity.
