Product details

What characterizes a "well" played rhythm? This work seeks answers to this and other questions in the field of musical rhythm. The basis for this is a newly developed oscillation model. It is based on the assumption that the rhythmic aspect of music stimulates neural oscillations in a listener's perception, and such a process can be simulated on a computer. In an extensive experiment with percussionists and listeners, it is shown that the positively rated rhythmic performances in the model evoke particularly strong and varied oscillation patterns. Overall, the evaluations can be explained by about 70%. Even a person-specific adjustment of the model (e.g., based on the age of listeners) is possible. The procedure offers application perspectives for music education practice.
