An observational and descriptive study was conducted with 18 mothers in the community of Florencia between 2018 and 2020, who presented children with low birth weight. The aim was to characterize the maternal risk factors that lead to low birth weight in the family doctor practices of the community of Florencia during the studied period. The research problem was defined as follows: What are the maternal risk factors that lead to low birth weight in the community of Florencia? The following methods and instruments were used in the investigation: surveys, questionnaires, observation, document analysis, as well as medical and paramedical procedures. The total population consisted of 28 mothers with low birth weight. Of these, 10 mothers were excluded because they lived outside the area. To obtain primary data, a survey was conducted at the beginning of the study to obtain a preliminary diagnosis, identifying needs related to low birth weight, sepsis due to Candida albicans, chronic non-communicable diseases, short gestation periods, and maternal age under 19 and over 35 years.
