Product details
From March 6, 2020, the Bavarian State Library presents "Munich. Look Here!" for the first time, showcasing a selection from its extensive photo collection in a large-scale exhibition. The 269 images come from the most important photographers' estates in the library and illustrate Munich's development from a royal residence city through the dark chapter of the "Capital of the Movement," the destruction of war, and the reconstruction, to its reincarnation as a "World City with Heart." Photographs by Joseph Albert, the court photographer of the Wittelsbachs, Heinrich Hoffmann, the most famous propaganda photographer of the Third Reich, and Felicitas Timpe, the chronicler of Munich's cultural life since the 1950s, together with numerous private provenance images, document the various facets of the city and its surroundings from the mid-19th century onwards. Our volume accompanies the exhibition curated by Cornelia Jahn, head of the Maps and Images Department of the Bavarian State Library. An introductory text, short biographies of the photographers, and detailed captions provide a wealth of information. The historical breadth of the material and the high photographic quality make this book a valuable resource not only for the Munich audience.
