Product details

Munich and its suburbs from a bird's-eye view – The aerial photographs date back to 1890, during the reign of Prince Regent Luitpold, providing sensational impressions of Munich and its surroundings in the early days of aviation: the densely built center with its narrow medieval structures, the grand boulevards, squares, and parks that shape the cityscape, the villa suburbs and farming villages that clearly show the pressure of urbanization, as well as the newly developed industrial districts and the residences and palaces from Munich's golden age. All images are from a time before the destruction caused by war and modernization, which would significantly alter the face of Munich throughout the 20th century. The high-quality photographs come from the Munich City Archive. Informative comments explain the aerial images and highlight notable urban planning details, topographical features, and historical development lines. The full-page image formats effectively showcase even the smallest details.
