Product details

From the beginning of his career in the late 1960s to the present day, the Viennese architect Hermann Czech has produced a heterogeneous architectural oeuvre characterised by ambivalence and based on an interweaving of theory and practice - his 'thinking on design'. Dialectical pairs of concepts are used to show how he deals with the inner contradictions of architecture and attempts to resolve them according to a dialectical pattern.
Czech's position will be discussed with regard to the pairs of opposites - despondency/subjugation, consumption/production, artwork/object of use, mannerism/participation, subjectivity/objectivity and old/new - thereby focussing on aspects of his work that have received little attention in the literature to date.
