This book provides a simple and reliable introduction to the identification of invertebrates through instructive line drawings and explanatory short texts about essential body features. Brief introductions to 20 animal groups inform about body structure, lifestyle, habitats, and opportunities for observation and collection. It includes forms and some of their larvae found on land and in freshwater, which can be identified to the species level without specialized knowledge, and in difficult taxa, at least to the genus or family level. Based on the outlined features, over 2700 species and genera can be identified using dichotomous or multiple choice steps. The index includes all scientific and common German names mentioned in the image plates, as well as frequent synonyms. The bibliography contains the most important reference works for identifying invertebrates and the individual animal groups. In the 8th edition, several names have been updated in a third of all image plates, new sketches have been added, identification processes have been improved, and additional commonly encountered invasive species have been included. A total of 36 plates have been completely revised, including an overview of macrozoobenthos, as well as planarians, ticks, river and freshwater shrimp, dragonflies, earwigs, cockroaches, aphids, and lacewings. This practical identification book allows students, pupils, environmental and hygiene experts, wildlife photographers, and nature enthusiasts to easily and reliably classify and address a large number of invertebrates, both directly in their habitats and in traps and collections.
