Müller:Albrecht Dürer und sein Kreis

The Cabinet of Prints and Drawings at the Kunstmuseum Basel houses a unique collection of drawings by German masters from the late 15th and early 16th centuries. This publication, designed as a scholarly catalog, focuses on a particularly important part of this collection: the drawings of Albrecht Dürer and his circle. This circle includes artists who worked in Dürer's workshop or were closely associated with him: Hans Baldung Grien, Hans Schäufelin, Hans von Kulmbach, Hans Springinklee, and Hans Leu the Younger. Most of the works come from the collection of the Basel jurist Basilius Amerbach (1533-1591), which was acquired by the city of Basel from Amerbach's heirs in 1661. This is a foundational work for the study of drawing in the German Renaissance. Major works from the Basel Cabinet of Prints and Drawings are published systematically and scientifically for the first time.
