The starting point is the family's migration from Egypt to Europe in 1971.
The author looks back on her life in Switzerland beyond the headscarf and minaret debate and lets the reader participate in how she came to the conviction that Islam must reform itself. It is an internal and external view at the same time, in which Islam in Europe and the migration experience are critically reflected.
Although she grew up in a relatively open parental home, Jasmin El-Sonbati had to disregard traditional thinking. Her life path is therefore also the path of emancipation.
Political and social events shortly before the Arab revolution frame the author's personal experiences.
The adoption of the minaret ban initiative in Switzerland in November 2009 provided the impetus for this account of her life.
