Monsters and ghosts from the Middle Ages to the present day

Poltergeists, werewolves and hybrid creatures - none of these creatures are inventions of the modern entertainment industry. Until the Enlightenment in the 18th century, people of all educational levels believed in the real existence of monsters and ghosts. Martin Luther was already preoccupied with the phenomenon of the dreaded poltergeists, which he interpreted as apparitions of the devil. At the same time, hundreds of men were cruelly executed in Europe as supposed werewolves. More than 500 human and animal monster breeds have been identified since the Middle Ages. Among the ghost forms, the ghosts of the dead and nature spirits stand out as the dominant groups. This book also deals with special phenomena such as the myth-enshrouded White Woman, Dracula and Black Romanticism.
