Monsignore Hugh O'Flaherty

The booklet describes the Irish priest Hugh O'Flaherty (1898-1963), who lived at the German College at the Campo Santo Teutonico in the Vatican since 1938 and worked next door at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. During the months of the German occupation of Rome from September 1943 to June 1944, he helped over 6,000 people, including many Jews, escape from the Nazi hunters. His organizational center was his room at the German College. The authors detail the living conditions at the Campo Santo Teutonico during this dangerous time and how O'Flaherty was able to carry out his aid work throughout Rome.
