Product details

Wessel Stols, 35 years old, sells his advertising company to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a famous writer. Meanwhile, his wife Friedl only wishes for one thing: a child. They travel to France, where Wessel plans to write about Monsieur Poubelle, the inventor of the garbage can. However, the novel fails. When he also loses his fortune with the bursting of the dot-com bubble, he turns to the shady trade of Soviet art. After several scandals, he switches sides and, with the help of old friends, secures a seat in the European Parliament. It doesn't take long before expense accounts, donation scandals, and a web of machinations corrupt him. When his great love Friedl leaves him, he loses any remaining sense of morality. At the height of the Maidan uprising, an old flame informs him that he is the father of a son. Wessel rushes to Ukraine, where he immerses himself in a decadent society and ultimately gets caught up in the chaos of war.
