Kästner, Erich Erich Kästner, born in 1899 in Dresden, established his worldwide fame with two of his first books: 'Heart on the Sleeve' (1928) and 'Emil and the Detectives' (1929). After the Nazis came to power, his books were burned, and his works were published in Switzerland by Atrium Verlag. Erich Kästner received numerous literary awards, including the Georg Büchner Prize. He died in 1974 in Munich. List, Sylvia Sylvia List studied Slavic Studies and Eastern European History, worked as a lecturer, and is now a freelance translator and editor, including of 'The Great Erich Kästner Book', 'Tomorrow, Children, There Will Be Nothing!', 'Between Here and There', 'The Exposure of the Easter Bunny', 'Interview with Santa Claus', 'Strange Things from Kurfürstendamm', 'One Sweats and Asks: When Will This End?', 'Who Remains a Child, Is a Human Being', 'Engagement on a Tightrope', and 'Hooray, Vacation!'. She lives in Munich.
