Mokusei!

In Tokyo, a Dutchman and a Belgian discuss the two faces of Japan: the European (exotic, pure) idea of Japan and the real Japan. One is a diplomat, the other a photographer. The diplomat helps the photographer find a model for "typically Japanese" shots in front of Mount Fuji. He falls hopelessly in love and returns to Japan as often as possible over the next five years. He ruins himself, neglects his friends, and feels unreal in Holland. At their last meeting, the first photo shoot is repeated. Everything is as if time has stood still, but in the evening, his beloved reveals that she will be getting married.
