Modulation kompakt

Modulation is central to the music of the 17th to 19th centuries. It is an important subject of examination, but in the classroom, it is usually squeezed into schematic sequences, divided into oblique categories (diatonic, enharmonic, chromatic) and damaged by specifications that are distant from music. Clemens Kühn's book therefore takes a different approach:

• Historical differentiation of modulation techniques
• Consideration of the formal, rhetorical, and dramaturgical significance of modulation
• Variety of tasks: variable sentence types instead of four-part harmony
• Inclusion of analyses

"Modulation kompakt" is deliberately concentrated in order to remain manageable and controllable. The book is suitable for teaching as well as for self-study. The author Clemens Kühn has written many groundbreaking books for musicians and students, some of which have become classics, including "Gehörbildung im Selbststudium," "Formenlehre," "Analyse lernen," "Kompositionsgeschichte in kommentierten Beispielen," and "Musiktheorie unterrichten - Musik vermitteln." He held the chair for music theory in Dresden until 2010.
