Günter Figal - Ando
German, Guenter Figal, 2017Product details
The engagement with architecture may largely be philosophical uncharted territory. However, it is not for the Freiburg philosopher Günter Figal. After exploring the works of Peter Zumthor and Frank Lloyd Wright, Figal continues the dialogue with the buildings of Tadao Ando. A longer stay in Japan in the autumn and winter of 2016/17 preceded this volume, which is essentially an essay in several chapters. Günter Figal's philosophical reflections on Ando encompass space, modernity, and also art. Many of the buildings Figal visited and discusses in the volume are museums and art institutions. There are also tea houses, churches, and seminar houses among them. Figal's thoughts began with the photographs he took on site. These exclusively black-and-white images interrupt the sequence.
