The functionality of modern power transmissions is primarily determined by the properties of the components used in the gears, as well as the characteristics of the shaft-bearing systems and the gearbox housing. Therefore, the appropriate design of the gear teeth is a key focus in gearbox construction. This book addresses the processes occurring directly in the tooth engagement of modern power transmissions. It describes design and calculation methods that predict the actual tooth geometry produced by the manufacturing process based on numerical simulation calculations. The influence of different materials and heat treatment processes on the load-bearing capacity of the gear teeth is examined, and the vibration and noise behavior of gearboxes is discussed. From this, constructive measures for designing quiet power transmissions are derived.
