In the work before you, a steady-state, mechanistic, 1-dimensional model of a vanadium/air redox flow battery has been developed. The description of the mass balance as a function of the reaction kinetics is carried out via the cell length. Here, the two half-cells are coupled via charge conservation and the ohmic losses as well as the activation polarizations of the electrodes are calculated as a function of the operating media. The reaction kinetics are described using the Butler-Volmer and Nernst equations. For these, the exchange current density and the symmetry factor were determined from measured data. The model considers the general potential and the shares of the losses of the vanadium/air redox flow battery.
