With the increasing computing power and the availability of advanced models, the simulation of material properties is becoming an important field in materials science. This work describes a powerful model for predicting the formation of harmful brittle phases (particularly TCP phases) in nickel-based superalloys. In principle, the methodology is also applicable to other alloy systems. The foundation is based on the calculation of alloy thermodynamics and diffusion processes using CALPHAD-based models. This allows for a complete consideration of the complexity of superalloys. The application of the model is demonstrated through several concrete case studies. Additionally, various theories regarding the well-known positive influence of ruthenium on brittle phase formation are discussed using the model.
